Scientists Find Shipwreck Off Californias Monterey Bay

(MONTEREY, Calif.) — An ROV deployed for seafloor mapping has discovered a barge that sank in 1982, UPI reported. Scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute were mapping the San Gregorio Fault when sonar data revealed Umpqua II, a dredge barge from Reedsport, Ore. The vessel ran aground near Moss Landing and was then towed offshore and intentionally sunk in Monterey Canyon.
