Mass. lobstermen who blocked coal carrier have criminal charges dropped

(FALL RIVER, Mass.) — Two men who used their lobster boat to block a coal carrier from delivering to a Massachusetts power plant have had all criminal charges against them dropped, public radio station WBUR reported. The defendants, who had taken the action in protest of global warming, had been charged with conspiracy, disturbing the peace, unsafe operation and failure to avoid a collision for their actions in blocking the path of the 688-foot Energy Enterprise. In an agreement with a sympathetic district attorney, the pair will pay only civil restitution.
