Witness: HMS Bounty captain knew frame was rotting but sailed into Sandy anyway

(PORTSMOUTH, Va.) — The formal hearing into the fatal sinking of the tall ship HMS Bounty has begun, with testimony that the captain knew the ship's frame was rotting but sailed out into Hurricane Sandy anyway, the Daily Mail newspaper reported. The chief mate and a shipyard working testified during the hearing, which is scheduled for eight days. The captain and one other crewmember were killed when the ship capsized off North Carolina.
