Tug captain charged with reckless operation in Va. collision with skiff

(CHESAPEAKE, Va.) — A tugboat captain has been charged with reckless operation in connection with a collision with a skiff, the Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported. The Albert Pike was pushing a 120-foot barge full of construction materials Nov. 26, 2012, on the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River when the barge struck and sank a 17-foot fishing boat with one occupant. A trial has been scheduled for next month for the 69-year-old tugboat captain, who no longer works for the boat's owner, Skanska USA Civil Southeast Inc.
