Towboat crewman charged with choking captain, endangering vessel

(ST. LOUIS) — A towboat crewman attempted to choke his captain, causing the vessel to veer toward the shoreline, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper reported. The attack occurred aboard the Miranda Paige on the Mississippi River near St. Louis. The 30-year-old man, who allegedly pulled the captain away from the wheel and choked him into unconsciousness, was charged with performing an act of violence against a person on a vessel and endangering the vessel. He also allegedly threatened the mate who took control of the towboat.
