Salazar: Shell 'screwed up' and was ill-prepared for Arctic offshore drilling

(WASHINGTON) — A government report released this week shows that the Department of Interior has identified shortcomings with Royal Dutch Shell's 2012 offshore Arctic drilling, Bloomberg News reported. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Shell was not fully prepared for the weather conditions off Alaska and "screwed up" to such an extent that regulators will require a management plan before the company can drill in the region again. A Shell spokesman said the company is fully committed to starting up the project again after a yearlong pause in 2013.
