Pirates release oil tanker hijacked off West Africa

(LONDON) — Pirates have released an oil tanker and its 24 Indian crewmembers after holding the vessel for a week off the coast of West Africa, Reuters reported. The Turkish-owned, Maltese-flagged Cotton was seized July 15 near Gabon's Port Gentil in the first reported attack in that area in five years. A surge in piracy off West Africa is raising costs for shipping companies.
