Navigation officer convicted of criminal negligence in Queen of the North trial

(VICTORIA, British Columbia) — The officer in charge of navigation during a fatal ferry crash in 2006 has been convicted of criminal negligence, The Province newspaper reported. Two people died when Queen of the North slammed into an island after missing a critical turn on its British Columbia route. Prosecutors suggested that he allowed himself to be distracted from his duties when he was assigned to work with an ex-girlfriend, and they either had sex or were engaged in a heated argument when the navigation error was made.
