Maersk predicts at least five more years of shipping overcapacity

(COPENHAGEN) — Maersk Line, the world's largest container shipping company, predicts at least five more years of overcapacity in the industry, Reuters reported Wednesday. Maersk Chief Executive Soren Skou told the Reuters Nordic Investment Summit that he sees no quick fix, and that the growth rate from before the 2008 economic crisis will not return. Maersk is seen as a bellwether for the industry because its ships make up 15 percent of world container shipping capacity.
