(MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich.) — The governor of Illinois said separation of the Great Lakes and Mississippi River watersheds is necessary to stop the spread of Asian carp, Crain's Detroit Business newspaper reported. At an annual conference of Great Lakes governors, Gov. Pat Quinn said sequestering the two basins from each other is the "ultimate solution." Quinn estimated the cost of division, which would take place in the Chicago river system, would require a $3.5 billion public works project funded by the federal government.
