Alaska legislators get an earful in debate over cruise ship discharges

(JUNEAU, Alaska) — The Alaska Senate is considering a bill that would roll back the state's wastewater-discharge law for cruise ships, Alaska Public Radio Network reported. Environmentalists and the cruise ship industry testified on the measure before the Senate Finance Committee. The House has already passed the legislation, and the Department of Environmental Conservation is asking for action on the bill by Feb. 15 so it can begin awarding permits.
