The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
(NEW ORLEANS) — The Coast Guard medevaced a crewman from an offshore supply vessel approximately one mile northeast of Main Pass, Sunday, in the vicinity of Venice on the lower Mississippi River.
Medevaced was Shawn Hornacek, 36, of Cutt Off.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a report at approximately 5 a.m.. that a crewmember aboard the 110-foot OSV Robin T reportedly suffered a laceration to his hand and experienced severe bleeding.
A Coast Guard Station Venice 25-foot Response Boat-Small and crew moored alongside the Robin T and embarked Hornacek until a Coast Guard helicopter and crew arrived. A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65C Dolphin helicopter and crew arrived at the Chevron Venice heliport at approximately 6:30 a.m. and transferred Hornacek aboard from the Station Venice 25-footer. The aircrew transported him to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero.
“Our training and coordination with Station Venice allowed a solid team effort to provide him immediate medical attention," said Lt. Mike Darrah, Air Station New Orleans pilot.
Hornacek's condition is unknown.
