(DAVENPORT, Iowa) — While the Upper Mississippi River is not experiencing low water levels, the problems in the lower river are beginning to have a negative impact in the north, the Quad City Times and Mason City Globe Gazette newspapers reported. Light-loading due to the drought elsewhere in the inland river system is affecting cargo movement in the upper river. Local towing companies also worry that the drought's impact on farm crops will reduce demand for shipping later in the year.
