Isaac to boost water levels in Mississippi River, aid navigation

(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) — Hurricane Isaac could bring some relief to the maritime industry that has suffered from low river levels in the lower Mississippi River, the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper reported. With six inches of rain forecast for much of the river basin, water levels could rise up from the lowest in a quarter-century. Too rapid a rise, however, could cause problems for vessels, including getting barges hung up in fleeting areas.
