(PERRYVILLE, Mo.) — The Army Corps of Engineers will go ahead with a plan to reduce water flow into the Mississippi River from the Missouri River reservoir, the Republic Monitor and Perryville News reported. Gov. Nixon had asked the Army not to do this, citing concern about the impact of low water levels on barge commerce. As a result of this year's drought, the Mississippi River is receiving a higher percentage of its water from the Missouri River system than it usually does, and towing companies say the low water levels remain very serious.
