Decommissioned WWII Navy ship runs aground in Cumberland River

(BUZZARD ROCK, Ky.) — A decommissioned World War II ship ran aground in Lake Barkley, the Courier Press newspaper of Evansville, Ind., reported. USS LST 325, which participated in the Normandy invasion on D-Day, strayed out of the Cumberland River channel in a driving rainstorm. The tug that helped free the ship from the mud, the Bethany Dawn, was piloted by a Navy veteran who once served on LST 325's crew.
