Calif. governor orders quicker payments to ports for shore-power initiatives

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) — Gov. Jerry Brown has taken steps to help California ports get quicker reimbursement for ship shore-power programs, the Ventura County Star newspaper reported. The governor vetoed a bill this week that would have required that ports be reimbursed for 90 percent of their shoreside power spending immediately, instead of the current situation in which the ports don't get reimbursed until the project is fully built. Brown then directed the state's Air Resources Board to provide reimbursements on a quarterly basis as the funds are committed.
