Alaska sightseeing boat runs aground; 72 people evacuated

(JUNEAU, Alaska) — A sightseeing boat with 76 people aboard ran aground in Glacier Bay, the Juneau Empire newspaper reported. The 72-foot Baranof Wind struck rocks and was taking on water. The Holland America cruise ship Volendam transferred 70 of the passengers to safety, and a National Park Service vessel transported two people, while four crew remained aboard to help dewater the vessel and deploy an anchor. Allen Marine was developing a refloating plan.
