KVH More than Doubles mini-VSAT Broadband Bandwidth in the North Atlantic

A full transponder is now dedicated to providing satellite communications for growing customer base in heavily travelled North Atlantic region

MIDDLETOWN, RI – A growing number of commercial and leisure operators are choosing KVH’s TracPhone® V7 and mini-VSAT BroadbandSM service, prompting KVH Industries, Inc., to increase bandwidth in popular regions to meet customer demand. KVH and its partner, ViaSat, Inc. , announced today that they have more than doubled the network’s bandwidth capacity in the North Atlantic to ensure outstanding performance, reliable connections, and affordable airtime service to a rapidly increasing customer base.

“Since its launch in late 2007, KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband network has grown steadily and is now a leading choice for satellite communications, particularly among commercial operators. In keeping with KVH’s commitment to customer satisfaction, we will continue to invest in the network to support our growing customer base,” explains Brent C. Bruun , KVH’s vice president for sales and business development. “Mariners who choose to equip their vessels with the TracPhone V7 and mini-VSAT Broadband do so because they trust KVH to provide reliable, affordable satellite communications with unmatched performance. Expansions like this one are just one way that we continue to deliver on our promise, even as the number of customers using the network increases.â€

The mini-VSAT Broadband network was designed from the ground up to be the first next-generation maritime satellite communications solution. Offering service and performance superior to traditional maritime VSAT services through a global spread spectrum satellite network, it also includes the rugged KVH TracPhone V7, the first FCC-approved 24-inch (60 cm) VSAT antenna. Already the fastest growing maritime VSAT solution, mini-VSAT Broadband’s seamless worldwide network is delivered by 12 satellite transponders and 9 secure earth stations and offers voice service and Internet access as fast as 512 Kbps (upload) and 2 Mbps (download) with significant cost savings compared to competing services.
