Container ship crewman injures legs in engine-room accident

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
 
(JUNEAU, Alaska) — A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter aircrew predeployed in Cold Bay safely medevaced a 31-year-old Taiwanese man who reportedly suffered leg injuries aboard the 890-foot container vessel Ever Unique 54 miles south of Dutch Harbor Sunday at approximately 5:30 p.m. Hung-Ming Liao, a fitter aboard the Ever Unique, was medevaced after the 17th Coast Guard District command center in Juneau received notification from the master of the Ever Unique requesting assistance for a crewmember who reportedly suffered injuries from an accident in the engine room.
A Jayhawk aircrew launched from Cold Bay at 3:53 p.m., safely hoisted the man from the container vessel and transported him to Cold Bay where he was transferred to LifeMed Air Ambulance and flown to Anchorage for further medical care.
Weather on scene at the time of the hoist was 20 knot winds and 12-foot seas.
