Virginia ghost fleet ship that broke loose is ‘stuck in the mud’

(ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va.) — A James River Reserve Fleet ship that broke loose during a storm last week is still grounded about a half-mile from its normal resting place, the Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported. A Coast Guard spokesman said the decommissioned 700-foot fleet oiler Monongahela is “stuck in the mud” in Burwell Bay. The Coast Guard continues to try to develop a salvage plan for the vessel.
