Crowley names Cole Cosgrove Vice President of Environmental Safety and Quality Assurance (ESQA)


(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.; October 7, 2009) Crowley Maritime Corporation announced today that Cole Cosgrove has been named vice president of the company’s Environmental, Safety and Quality Assurance (ESQA) group working from Crowley’s corporate headquarters in Jacksonville. In his new role, Cosgrove reports to Susan Rodgers, senior vice president administration and replaces Charlie Nalen who has been named general manager, Valdez operations.

As vice president of ESQA, Cosgrove is responsible for the strategic leadership of the company’s number one core value “safety” which focuses on individual safety, security and environmental stewardship. Under his direction, the ESQA team provides expert support in the development of corporate wide policies and guidelines to enhance Crowley’s safety culture.

Cosgrove and his team are responsible for the Crowley Operational Excellence Management System which assures a safe, secure and healthy workplace; protection of the environment and quality service to customers. The Management System is critical to Crowley’s performance and is the responsibility of all employees. Crowley is committed to fulfilling the safety, security, environmental and quality requirements of customers and to continually improve management system effectiveness.

“Cole has demonstrated a passion for safety through his actions on the safety leadership team and his persistent pursuit of safety in all operations that he has managed.” said Rodgers. “He has vast knowledge of Crowley’s businesses and has worked closely with crews enabling him to more closely involve them in safety and environmental endeavors.”

Cosgrove joined Crowley in January of 1987 as a port captain in the ship operations group overseeing Crowley’s U.S. and foreign-flag vessels and crews. Since that time, he has served the company in positions of increasing responsibility including senior port captain, manager of chartering operations and director of contract operations. In 2005, Cosgrove was named a general manager and formed the ship management group to oversee third party vessel operations. Most recently he served as Vice President, Marine Personnel.

In 2001, Cosgrove was awarded the Thomas Crowley Trophy, Crowley’s highest honor. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, and is a licensed Master, Unlimited Tonnage, any ocean.
