British Columbia mariner killed when bow gate opens in rough seas

(BELLA BELLA, British Columbia) — A Vancouver Island mariner was killed when a bow gate opened unexpectedly in rough seas, the Times-Colonist newspaper of Victoria reported. The man was transporting silviculture workers on a 35-foot flat-bottom Sealander in Burke Channel. The vessel listed badly, the engine failed and the wind blew the boat into the shore.
