Calif. tugboat exec to help clean ‘Pacific garbage patch’ (PHOTOS)

(INCINITAS, Calif.) — The owner of Pacific Tugboat Services will participate in a project that aims to help clean floating plastic from a huge swirling garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean, the North County Times newspaper of Escondido reported. A inventor has developed a debris trap using boom to trap the trash, collect it and load it onto a barge. Vessels will try the system in the North Pacific gyre, an area the size of Texas where swirling currents have accumulated the so-called “Great Pacific Garbarge Patch.”
