Two crew burned in explosion on La. offshore supply vessel

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:

 

(NEW ORLEANS) — The Coast Guard medevaced two crewmembers from an offshore supply vessel, aprroximately 15 miles south of Atchafalaya Bay, La., Thursday, May 28, 2009.

The Coast Guard received a call from the offshore oil rig Eugene Island at 8:12 a.m. Thursday, reporting that two crewmembers on board the offshore supply vessel Capt. Rayne were suffering from burns after an explosion on board the vessel and requested a medevac.

Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans launched an MH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter and crew and sucessfully lifted the crewmembers into the helicopter and transported them to Baton Rouge General Hospital in Baton Rouge, La.

The crewmembers’ conditions are unknown.

The Coast Guard is investigation the incident.
