(PORTLAND, Me.) — The Bath Iron Works may build its first ship for the U.S. Coast Guard since the 1930s, the Associated Press reported. Bath is among at least two finalists for the lucrative contract to provide fast-response cutters. The Coast Guard is requiring delivery of 12 fast-response cutters by 2012, with options to build as many as 34 altogether. Another finalist is a corsortium involving Raytheon Co. and VT Halter Marine.
