(CASTINE, ME – MAY 2, 2008) – The Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Board of Trustees will welcome three new members and one reappointed member at today’s pre-Commencement meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. on the college campus.
Appointed by Maine Governor John E. Baldacci and approved by members of the Maine Senate, new Trustees will include Marian Morgan, Cape Elizabeth; Robert Somerville, Houston, Texas; and William Walsh, Northampton, N.H. Robert Walker of Marco Island, Fla., was reappointed to serve as a Trustee.
The Gubernatorial nomination of Marian Morgan, a retired professional social worker and fund raiser, was based on her long affiliation with Maine Maritime Academy, her knowledge of professional fundraising, and her commitment to public service.
Robert Somerville is the chairman and chief executive officer of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), one the world’s leading ship classification societies. Noted for his vast experience in the maritime industry and his ongoing commitment to the advancement of Maine Maritime Academy, Somerville received Governor Baldacci’s nomination to serve on the board.
William Walsh, a career businessman with extensive experience in the hospitality industry, will also serve on the Board. His nomination was based on his ongoing interest in the mission of Maine Maritime Academy, his professional business experience, knowledge of property construction and his deep connection to the state of Maine.
Robert Walker, the retired founder and chief executive officer of Marine Hydraulics International, Inc., was reappointed to the board by Governor Baldacci. He has more than 50 years of experience in the marine industry and more than 30 years of experience as a corporate officer of Tidewater Maritime Institute.
