(VASHON ISLAND, Wash.) — The 2004 oil spill involving the tanker Polar Texas in Dalco Passage is having effects even today, the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber newspaper reported. While the long-term environmental impacts are still uncertain, ecological groups say the incident caused state and federal agencies to take fuel-spill cleanup response more seriously. ConocoPhillips has agreed to pay $588,000 to help restore the damaged environment in the area.
