Florida’s Sea Star Line to begin calling at Philadelphia

The following is the text of a press release issued by Sea Star Line LLC:

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) — Sea Star Line, LLC has announced that they are adding the Port of Philadelphia to its rotation. Sea Star Line vessels will service the port weekly, making calls to the Tioga Marine Terminal each Friday beginning, April 23, 2010. This will replace the current agreement with Horizon Lines, LLC, however cargo will still be accepted in Elizabeth, NJ.
Sea Star Line vessels are configured for both Lo/Lo and Ro/Ro service. In addition to flexibly designed container and trailer space, they feature a spacious garage area that accommodates oversized cargo, and another garage dedicated to automobiles.
“This move comes in direct response to customer needs.†said Frank Peake, Sea Star Line president and COO. “We continually evaluate our services to ensure that our operations are aligned with our customer priorities. For Sea Star Line, performance involves a lot more than operational capability; it is a continual effort to remain in synch with our customers. As their priorities change in response to business conditions, we take that into account and respond accordingly.â€
Peake continued, “The trick, of course, is to optimize our operations to meet the diverse needs of hundreds of customers. Fortunately, we have a set of assets and skills that are uniquely suited to the task. We have the fastest and most flexible ships in the trade, and the most experienced and skilled personnel. This powerful combination allows us to satisfy a demanding set of operational requirements, and adapt quickly to a dynamic market.â€
Tioga Marine Terminal is an ideal partnership because it provides ready access to highways and intermodal facilities, quick gate turns, on-site warehouse space, reefer plug availability, heavy lift cranes, and ample space.
