The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
(PORT CANAVERAL, Fla.) — A incident command post was established Sunday aboard Port Canaveral Cruise Ship Terminal # 5 following notification of a bomb threat aboard the Carnival Cruise Ship Sensation while it was at sea awaiting arrival inbound to Canaveral at the time of the threat.
The Coast Guard, FBI and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office boarded the Sensation at approximately 9:30 a.m. and concluded that no credible bomb threat exists after interviewing eyewitnesses and the suspect accused of making the bomb threat. The suspect has been placed into custody by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Security crews found no device or suspicious device during an exhaustive search aboard the sensation.
Approximately 3,470 passengers and crew members are aboard the Sensation. The last port of call for the Sensation was Nassau, Bahamas. The Coast Guard Captain of the Port has rescinded an earlier order prohibiting the ship from returning to port. Sensation has arrived at Cruise Terminal # 5 to disembark passengers. Additional security personnel have been assigned to augment embark and disembarkation. In addition baggage associated with eyewitnesses and the suspect will be segregated for additional screening after the ship after arrival procedures are complete.
Agencies represented in the incident command post who engineered to facilities security plan in response to the bomb threat were: The Coast Guard, FBI, Transportation Security Administration, Port Canaveral Police Department, Canaveral Fire and Rescue, Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Air Marshall’s Service and Carnival Cruise Lines.
