4 dead, 1 missing after large fishing boat sinks off Alaska

(DUTCH HARBOR, Alaska) — Four officers died and a fifth man was missing after a large fishing boat sank in the Bering Sea off Alaska, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer newspaper reported. Rescuers were able to save 42 others, who were in life rafts. The ship’s officer didn’t board the life rafts with the rest of their crew. Their frantic mayday call reported that the vessel’s rudder room was flooded before they abandoned ship.
