Ambrose Light, New York Harbor’s beacon, will be dismantled

(STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.) — Ambrose Light, which was damaged in a ship collision last year, will be dismantled and won’t be rebuilt, the Staten Island Advance newspaper reported. The light has guided ships into New York Harbor for 41 years. The Coast Guard said the new breed of light-emitting diode-equipped buoys will do the job, and at a lower maintenance cost than the light tower.
