Car carrier loses steering, runs aground in Columbia River

(WOODLAND, Wash.) — A 550-foot car carrier lost its steering and ran aground Saturday afternoon on a Columbia River beach, The Oregonian reported. Foss Maritime tugboats towed Viking Emerald, which was bound from Tacoma, Wash., to Portland, Ore., to its destination on Saturday night after the ship was refloated. The Coast Guard said the vessel was not damaged and there were no reports of injuries or pollution.
