The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
(SEATTLE) — At 3:30 a.m. the Coast Guard received notification that the 651-foot bulk carrier Star Indiana suffered a loss of propulsion just north of Neah Bay, Wash., in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
The tug Gladiator was dispatched to the scene as a precautionary measure. The vessel eventually regained propulsion and continued to its port call in Canadian waters. The Captain of the Port Puget Sound ordered the Star Indiana to retain a tug escort throughout the duration of its transit in U.S. waters. Coast Guard Sector Seattle coordinated with Transport Canada to follow up on the cause of the loss of propulsion.
The vessel safely arrived at approximately 9:25 a.m. and is currently anchored in Constance Bay, British Columbia, awaiting assessment by Transport Canada before being allowed to proceed.
