Toledo maritime academy to launch STCW, cruise-ship trainingDec 23, 2011 12:00 AM
In November, The Maritime Foundation received a $25,000 grant from First Energyâs Economic Development Fund through City of Toledo Mayor Michael P. Bellâs administration.
âOver the past six weeks we received over 100 requests for information about the two new programs,â said Ms. Marazon. âWe completed our development of the qualification and application process. We have met with The Source of Lucas County so they can help recruit potential applicants. Last week we completed the process of getting out applications to 115 interested individuals.â
As applications are submitted, they will go through a review process by committee at The Maritime Academy of Toledo Foundation.
âThe review process will pay close attention to work history and occupational assessment, as well as lifestyle. Additionally, because we live in a post-9/11 world, and these are jobs in the maritime industry, there is a detailed background check, as well as drug and physical tests,â said Lt. Cmdr. Daniel Kleiboemer, who was recently hired as the director of The Maritime Academy of Toledo Foundation.
The Maritime Academy of Toledo Foundation says it is still accepting applications for the January 2012 class and for future classes. For more information on the two new training programs call Lt. Cmdr. Kleiboemer at 419-244-9999 or log on to www.themaritimefoundation.us .
