St. Lawrence Seaway ends 2009 season, a year of steep declines

(WATERTOWN, N.Y.) — The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Seaway’s 2009 season has ended with total cargo down 28 percent from 2008, the Watertown Daily Times newspaper reported. The number of transits decreased by 17 percent. The year’s last upbound ship, the J.W. Shelley, has departed Eisenhower Lock.
