New president for IMCA

Biennial board changes at the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) see Johan Rasmussen of Acergy take on the role of President of the Council of IMCA, the association that represents the interests of over 560 offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies in 52 countries.

Johan Rasmussen is Corporate Vice President and General Counsel at Acergy. In addition to becoming President of IMCA, he also becomes Chairman of the association’s Overall Management Committee (OMC).

“We are delighted to welcome Johan as our President and OMC Chairman for the next two years,†says Hugh Williams, IMCA’s Chief Executive.  “Coming from a legal background he has strongly supported IMCA’s work on standardisation and simplification of contracts, as well as understanding and allocating risk correctly in contracts. We look forward to working with him over the next two years, which look like being a time of challenge for the industry. Andy Woolgar, Vice President Operations at Subsea 7 takes over as our Vice-President.â€

Johan Rasmussen, who has worked both in Norway and the UK in the past 20 years, is looking forward to his two years in the IMCA chair: “As an IMCA Council member I have been delighted to see the association’s growth in terms of membership, visibility and recognition in the last few years.  As President I will make every effort to ensure this continues.

“Safety and efficiency in our industry is fundamental, and I applaud the work of IMCA in these areas, and want to encourage the global sharing and spread of the IMCA materials.”

Johan Rasmussen takes over the role of President and Chairman from Knut Boe, Senior Vice President North Sea Canada in Technip’s Offshore Branch. “I would like to pay tribute to Knut’s hard work on behalf of the association,†says Hugh Williams. “The association has grown dramatically during that time. When he took on his IMCA roles we had 350 member companies in 40 countries; over 200 new companies have joined during the past two years and our international reach has increased by a dozen countries. There is greater recognition now of the association which has far higher visibility than two years ago, there is no doubt that membership of IMCA helps member companies around the globe speak a common language particularly in key areas such as safety, competence and efficiency. We thank him for his invaluable contributions and tireless work.â€

Knut Boe explains: “The success of IMCA has been created through a strong international focus, and a continuous drive to both enhance and improve the value the association brings to its members.”
