Deckhand rescued from Illinois River after barge strikes bridge

(MORRIS, Ill.) — A deckhand is back at work after falling from a barge into the Illinois River, the Morris Daily Herald newspaper reported. The lead barge being pushed by towboat The Anderson struck a bridge pillar, knocking the deckhand into the frigid water. He floated downstream for at least 45 minutes before he was rescued. Officials said he wore a floatation device.
