New Virginia coal terminal unloads few vessels, sits idle

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Kinder Morgan’s new coal terminal has serviced few vessels, and its 2009 schedule is empty, the Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported. The coal import business ground to a halt just after the terminal was built this year, so far it has lightered just one ship and accepted a few barges. It’s the only dry bulk terminal in the region that can serve capesize vessels, so there still potential to switch work to other commodities such as salt.
