New lights on Mississippi River bridge may bother towboat pilots

(VIDALIA, La.) — Mississippi transportation officials say they will provide a phone number for towboat pilots who want to complain about the new lights on the Mississippi River bridge, the Natchez Democrat newspaper reported. If a boat captain can’t see because of the lighting, the lights will be turned off temporarily during the vessel’s passage. The Coast Guard has complained about the new bridge lights, but some maritime businesses say the lights actually help them see better.
