(DETROIT) — Shipments of steel and other dry bulk products have soared on the Great Lakes as the industry rebounds, Crain’s Detroit Business reported. Lakers carried 2.2 million tons of steel and coal in March, up from 200,000 tons in March 2009. On April 1, 32 freighters were moving cargo on the lakes, versus only 17 a year earlier.
