The 50-year-old engine-maintenance crewman on the 696-foot Horizon Tiger was found unconscious in the engine room.
The Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Center in Juneau received a phone call today at 1:17 p.m. from the Horizon Tiger master reporting the man was in need of medical assistance.
A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Kodiak launched at 2:34 p.m., arrived at the vessel at 4:51 p.m. and hoisted the injured man onboard. The helicopter returned to Air Station Kodiak at 5:58 p.m. where the injured man was transferred to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.
The freight vessel Horizon Tiger, home ported in Wilmington, Del., was transiting between Taiwan and Tacoma, Wash., when the incident occurred.
The cause of the incident and the condition of the victim are unknown.
