Crowley plays role in the Summit of the Americas Company transports “Safe Boats” to Trinidad and Tobago

(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.; April 17, 2009) Crowley played a behind-the-scenes role in assuring Heads of States have safe transportation during the upcoming Summit of the Americas event to be held in Trinidad and Tobago this weekend.

The company successfully transported two Interceptor vessels or “Safe Boats” to Trinidad for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The vessels will be used to ensure the security of visiting dignitaries and Heads of States. The U.S. government agency thanked Crowley for coordinating and assisting in this important task.

“On behalf of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for a job well done in coordinating and assisting the CBP, and the Trinidad and Tobago Customs and Excise Division’s shipment of two Safe Boats. With the Summit of the Americas to be held in Trinidad and Tobago April 17-19, it was critical that the two Interceptor vessels arrive in Trinidad as scheduled to support the security of the visiting Heads of States and the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago,” said Karl A. Brown, chief of party for the CBP in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Summit of the Americas brings together the Heads of State and Government representatives from the Western Hemisphere to discuss common concerns, seek solutions and develop a shared vision for the future development of the region, be it economic, social or political in nature. U.S. President Barack Obama is scheduled to arrive in Trinidad today to attend the summit, following his high-profile visit to Mexico.

“We are pleased to have had the opportunity to play a role in such an important summit and assist the CBP in ensuring important security vessels made it to Trinidad and Tobago safely and on-time. Crowley operations teams on both the mainland and in the islands should be proud in knowing they were part of this event,” said Rudy Leming, vice president of Caribbean services.
